Brian Penrose, DPM, is currently working at the Wound Healing Center as well as the Foot and Ankle Center. He serves at both the Plymouth and Mishawaka campuses. He is fresh out of his residency that was completed at Saint Joseph Health System (SJHS). Dr. Penrose feels that the atmosphere, down to earth people and his strong relationships are what have led him to want to stay in Indiana. Indiana is glad to have you!
Dr. Penrose grew up in a small town in northern Utah. Before starting his undergraduate program, he spent two years on a missionary trip in Sao Paulo, Brazil. During this time, Dr. Penrose realized that he felt a strong desire to pursue medicine to help those that didn’t have adequate access to medical care. He attended Podiatry School at Des Moines University College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery and after a recommendation from an upperclassman, his residency here at SJHS.
Dr. Penrose loves being a podiatrist. He enjoys how every day is different. He likes the challenge and constant drive to progress, learn and improve. He most enjoys being in a position to help people in need. Dr. Penrose says there is no better feeling than having a positive effect on someone’s life.
During his residency and career, Dr. Penrose has had many great experiences. One of his favorite moments was when a patient with 3rd degree burns to both feet, was able to be completely healed. It wasn’t easy but the reward at the end was worth it. Throughout his office, Dr. Penrose’s staff say he is their favorite to work with. He believes they tell everyone that. He is known for singing country songs while doing his notes.
Dr. Penrose has been married for 11 years. He and his wife have 5 children. As a family, they enjoy sports, games and movie nights! They like to frequent parks and spend time outdoors. Recently the family has taken up Geocaching right here in Indiana. That sounds like fun! His sons are always wanting to go fishing while his daughters enjoy reading and telling stories of unicorns and cotton candy clouds. On date night, Dr. Penrose says they usually end up at Costco. One of their favorite date nights was seeing pianist, Jim Brickman perform. Dr. Penrose says there is something empowering watching another person perform in their talent that they have worked so hard to craft.
Thank you, Dr. Penrose, for all that you do.
